Fischer Lovebird Information |
Agapornis fischeri General: A member of the eye-ring species of Lovebirds, Fischers are one of the most beautiful. The primary color is green, the mask is reddish orange, the head is a yellowish green, yellow neck, white eye-ring and the beak is red. They are native to Tanzania. These are very active birds, we have one called Bozo because he is such a clown. Fischer Lovebirds are easy to tame and can be a loyal companion. Lovebirds are colony birds and don't like being a lone, they are best kept in pairs unless you can give them at least a few hours a day of company and companionship. Housing: Lovebirds are very active and require space to fly, a cage of size at least 26X26X16 but larger is better, there are nice 30X30X36 cages on the market at very reasonable rates. They need plenty of toys and like to chew so make sure to get toys with wood parts. We buy all our toys from Chew Too Toys in Andover Minnesota. We use water bottles but still provide a dish of water so they can take a bath. Diet: We feed all our Lovebirds a Parakeet seed mix with plenty of grains, we add Pretty Bird Mini Breeder Select pellets to the seed 50/50. We feed Natural Gold Small pellets in a seperate dish. We also feed fresh vegetables on a daily basis. We provide both a mineral block and cuttle bones . Color mutations: Fischer Lovebirds come in Blue, Violet, Pastel, Edged, Dark eyed clear, Recessive pied, Dominant pied, Slaty, Misty and Lutino. The mutations we breed are shown below.
More in depth information on Fischer Lovebird mutations can be found here The official MUTAVI Agapornis Page |

This is my favorite color mutation of all the Lovebirds. A solid Yellow body with white flights, red eyes and an orange head. This is a recessive mutation not sex-linked as in the Peachface. The bird on the left is the Lutino, the bird on the right is an Pastel (dilute) split to Lutino Fischer. |
|
Pastel (Dilute) Fischer Lovebird |
In the Pastel Fischer Lovebird the green is diluted about 50%, causing them to look yellow/green. We are pairing the offspring from this pair with Lutino Fischers to produce Pastel split Lutinos which look much like the Lutino but with dark eyes. |
|
Pastel / Lutino Fischer Lovebird |
Pastel Fischer Lovebirds that are split to Lutino can vary in just how yellow they are, some are so yellow that the only way to tell they are not Lutino are the dark eyes. Pastels split to Lutino will have white flights. |

Green split Lutino Fischer Lovebird |
This young bird is a normal color Fischer Lovebird. You can not tell by looking at it but this bird is split to Lutino. We have a few of these normals split to Lutino that we breed to Lutinos, I feel it is good practice to keep some wild type birds in the breeding program. |
